It never gets old when I get the reaction of disbelief when I tell people I've been on relief trips or volunteer at service events because looking at me- I'm a very loud, foul language talker, inappropriate humor and tattooed girl. I don't look like your average humanitarian worker (whatever that is supposed to look like) or the person who spends her weekends working at Moveable Fest
Summer is rolling along- some of you have taken your vacations, some are coming up, and some people are planning to use their PTO on a relief trip. Now, I had someone recently ask me, why would I take my precious and so little earned time off from work to go and do MORE work. Especially in the hottest and poorest country in the western hemisphere, Haiti?
Happy SUMMER time! WE MADE IT! We got through summer, and paleness, and expensive sweater and coat season, to now enjoying some warm weather, ball games, and hopefully vacations! While we are not out of school- we meaning, adults- I hope everyone can appreciate and enjoy this time of year.
Remember back in the 90's the cool tee shirts everyone wore with "No Fear"- like why did that ever go out of style? In the era of Von Dutch and Stussy and FUBU, I feel like that was probably the most inspirational logo of the decade...one I would very much like to bring back!
Don't you love when you think everything is going pretty well- you have the job you really want, you have money in the wallet, your broken heart is healed...you're working out hard at the gym and feeling healthy, then BAM! You fall on your ass- and sometimes literally!
Ahhh spring is here (sorta) and this season seems to be a time for many people of growth of change! The time maybe for spring cleaning of our homes, our clothes, maybe new jobs, spring break vacations, and even cleaning of our personal lives.....which comes to mind......DATING!
Well despite walking around my office without shoes on, I would say going on this winter vacation to Costa Rica was very rewarding and needed to clear my mind and sharpen my soul after the past grueling months of work and personal stress! That being said, I also learned how in the midst of the country being at odds either very FOR or AGAINST our new President Donald J. Trump, how truly special it means to be alive and in my own skin.
I am sure like me, many of you are excited to have a clean slate and start this new year with amazing pledges, promises, and RESOLUTIONS to be blablablabla….<record scratch> Do you believe that garb?
I remember my first cityfam experience. Yes me. Social events coordinator turned Marketing Director was indeed a CITYFAM hater!
Mini work week, football, kiddies off of school, and stuffing my face without judgment- well kids, Thanksgiving kicks off the holiday season and for many people like me, it is easy to get caught up in the commercial-ness of it all.
Well whether you voted for Him or Her, we are having a very interesting week with a new President and the nation either cheering or protesting on the pick. Like many families, even our own CityFam felt the divide...so I ask the question, does one's political view affect our friendship or relationship with our family? I often read this week on my Facebook newsfeed, "Delete me if you voted for Trump! You are a racist and bigot!" or I read, "Haha you poor losers, suck it up! Get a life!" or we also have the, "Well Hey, #FeeltheBern- I never liked either candidate, don't blame me!" I have friends in recovery who are looking to drink, friends who are therapists who post Suicide Hotline numbers, or others researching other countries to move to, or posting their tears.....all I wanna say is, "Can't we all just get along?"
